Lama  Ngawang Thekche (Dr. Mitzi Forbes) is a compassionate healthcare professional and dedicated monastic, who skillfully balances her roles to help others achieve wellness and happiness. Currently an online instructor for Chamberlain College of Nursing, Dr. Forbes earned her Ph.D. in nursing with a minor in psychology from the University of Arizona in 1998. With certifications in Healing Touch, Clinical Aromatherapy, and Transformative Mindfulness Methods from the University of Toronto, she is deeply committed to holistic health practices. Her passion for healing extended to her work as Executive Director of White Conch from June 2007 to February 2012 and as a COVID Vaccine Nurse at UW Health, where she has served part-time since 2021.

A lifelong learner, Dr. Forbes has also studied Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) and provides services with ionic foot baths. She was a Certified Clinical Aromatherapy Practitioner with Essence of Healing for nearly 17 years and volunteered with Agrace HospiceCare from 2012 to November 2014, reflecting her deep commitment to end-of-life care.

Ordained as a monastic since 2007, Mitzi Forbes has practiced transformative meditation since 2003 and is deeply involved in guiding others on their spiritual journeys. Her love for birds is woven into her teachings, where she draws parallels between the freedom of flight and the liberation of the spirit. She often reflects on the beauty of their songs, seeing them as reminders of the joy and peace that come from within. As she wisely states, “Happiness is not an accident. It is a result of a healthy mind and spirit.”

Though she is not currently teaching full-time, Dr. Forbes continues to substitute and inspire others at Joyful Path with her lively and warm presence, always striving to create a world where health and happiness are within everyone’s reach.
