Mary Kay Reinemann is a retired teacher who found her passion for Marshall Rosenberg’s “Nonviolent Communication” (NVC) in May of 2004. She immediately recognized NVC as a transformative practice, one that is simple yet profound, offering the potential for a lifetime of learning and integration. For Mary Kay, NVC is more than a communication tool—it’s a path to holistic, embodied, and interpersonal connection, something she likens to “meditation for the mouth.”
Driven by a desire to share and deepen her practice, Mary Kay began teaching and organizing NVC practice groups in 2007. Her grounded, personal experience informs her teaching, creating spaces where participants can connect deeply with themselves and others through the power of compassionate communication. Over the years, she has facilitated several Madison area communities of practice and offered NVC training in diverse settings, including Wisconsin prisons, schools, churches, and service communities.
A founding member of the Madison Area NVC, now known as the Wisconsin Empathy Guild, Mary Kay takes great joy in watching a community of empathy and understanding blossom. Her primary teacher, Robert Gonzales, a former president of the NVC board of directors and founder of Living Compassion, has been a significant influence on her journey. Mary Kay is a member of Robert’s LIFE (Learning, Integration, and Full Embodiment) classes of 2009-10 and 2014-15, an ongoing community of practice. She has also studied with numerous other esteemed trainers, including Marshall Rosenberg, Miki Kashtan, Susan Skye, Kathleen McFerran, Sarah Peyton, and Richard & Jill Broadbent. Additionally, she draws inspiration from Ken Wilber’s Integral Theory.
